Writing what matters (and sells)
Copywriting is the sneaky skill all small business owners should have in their back pocket.
And in my opinion, this is the best way to learn it.

How copywriting helps your business
In short, it builds connections, and it gets people to buy your products.
It’s writing that is written for a specific audience that encourages them to take action, such as subscribing for a newsletter or buying a product.
Whether you know it or not, you’ve been writing copy the whole time you’ve been running your business — it’s just a matter of whether it’s working for you, or not!
Why I invested in copywriting education
After buying a home and finishing my first season on my small cut flower farm, I knew those profits weren’t going to cut it. As a millennial women in her thirties, I was really after some semblance of stability.
I wanted to find something that aligned with my interests, and paid me what I deserved. Something that would allow me to stay connected to my small business community. Something that was challenging, yet rewarding.
And then, the algorithm gods blessed me with an Instagram ad.
Filthy rich writer, it said
I saw it, I clicked it. I never thought of myself as much of a writer, but curiosity got the best of me. I saved the video to watch later, so as not to interrupt whatever I was binging on Netflix.
The next day I did a little poking around on the site and decided to commit to watching the video training. And I was intrigued.
It encouraged me to take control of my very confused career. But it also hit on a personal note.
While running my (now closed) ceramics business, copywriting was something I just couldn’t figure out. And because I’ve always been a “I’ll do it myself” kind of person – I ran my business the same way and never sought out copywriting assistance.
But I wouldn’t say my independent nature paid off when it came to writing copy for my own business. I struggled to get newsletter subscribers. I wasn’t consistent in my messaging. I wasn’t hitting my sales goals on my website.
And now that I’ve joined the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy, I can see all of my mistakes (and the solutions) all too clearly.
What is Filthy Rich Writer?
Filthy Rich Writer runs the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA). It’s a course, it’s a community, it’s a way to learn an invaluable skill that you can use to improve your business, or change your life. Or both! Up to you :)
The classes start out slowly, first explaining what copywriting even is, and then progresses into the nitty gritty details of how to write different kinds of copy, and even how to run a freelance copywriting business or land an agency gig.
If this sounds interesting so you can expand your business’ marketing power–amazing. You’ll crush it.
If you want to join to start a new career even if you’ve never done any marketing before–great. They teach you copywriting as both a skill and as a business.
Is it really worth it?
Yes. The answer is yes. I ended up researching MANY different copywriting programs, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my choice. Here are my favorite parts about the CCA:
The COMMUNITY!! Small business is all about community, and this course has it. The students-only Facebook group is full of amazingly helpful people who are in it with you and want you to succeed. You can get all the feedback on your work that you could ever ask for, as long as you can stand the heat :)
It’s truly comprehensive. The foundation courses are super informative and are your building blocks for writing good copy. And then you have the bonus courses! Special little courses on all of the more specific topics you could ever think of.
The process isn’t sugar-coated. Whether you are taking the course to learn for your business, or want to become a pro copywriter, the path to success is clear. But they don’t pretend like it’s easy, because it’s not. It’s running a business, after all. But they show you how to do it, step by step.
The cost! I’ll be honest. This wasn’t the cheapest course I found on copywriting, but it also wasn’t the most expensive. I found one that cost 10x this course. No, thank you!!
What ended up selling me on this one was the clear outline on what I’d be learning, and the support that comes with being in the academy.
It’s hard to describe, but it’s a feeling I have. A confidence. I know that if I had taken this while running my business, I would’ve been more successful.
I used the skills and knowledge from CCA to land a job at a small agency where I helped dozens of small businesses with their websites and communications.
And now I am confident I can use my marketing and small business experience to help other small businesses struggling with their branding and messaging.
Want to learn a new skill and improve your brands messaging?
Start out by watching the video training. You’ll learn some copywriting tips and then some.
If it sounds good, join the program! It’s the best thing I’ve done for my career, and I wish I had done it sooner.
But here’s another option
Maybe you’re already wearing too many hats in your business. I definitely get that. And I’m here to remind you–there’s nothing wrong with outsourcing! It is something I should’ve done more of.
If that’s where you’re at, here’s some good news. If you’re reading this page, you now know of a copywriter that would love to help you. Just send me a quick message and we can go over some options on how I can help you grow your brand.
And I’m here for any other questions that may have popped up while you were reading this. I’d love to chat so get in touch!
